Long-term weight trajectory and risk of hip fracture, falls, impaired physical function, and death
Journal of the American Geriatrics Society Aug 31, 2018
LeBlanc ES, et al. - In this cohort study, researchers explored the link between weight trajectory, health status, and mortality in older women. To assess whether 20-year weight trajectory measures were related to hip fracture, falls, physical performance, and mortality, Logistic and Cox proportional hazard models were utilized. Findings suggested an association of moderate weight loss over 20 years with the greater risk of hip fracture, poor physical function, and mortality but not of falls in women surviving past 80 years of age.
