Long-term sustainability of diabetes prevention approaches: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
JAMA Internal Medicine | Nov 10, 2017
Haw JS, et al. - This study was designed in order to determine the aggregate long-term effects of different diabetes prevention strategies on diabetes incidence. A successful reduction was achieved in the diabetes incidence through lifestyle modification (LSM) and medications (weight loss and insulin-sensitizing agents), in adults at risk for diabetes. Medication effects were disclosed to be short lived. On the other hand, the LSM interventions were sustained for several years. Nonetheless, their effects declined with time, suggesting that interventions to preserve effects were warranted.
