Long-term survival outcome after lobectomy in patients with clinical T1 N0 lung cancer
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Feb 23, 2020
Ito H, Suzuki K, Mizutani T, et al. - Patients with clinical T1 N0 lung cancer were examined for the long-term outcomes after lobectomy based on thin-section computed tomography. Analysis of data from 543 patients with pathological adenocarcinoma who had undergone lobectomy revealed the 10-year overall survival of 80.4% and the 10-year recurrence-free survival rate of 77.1%. Excellent prognosis was evident for those with total tumor size ≤ 3 cm and consolidation tumor ratio ≤ 0.5; these patients might represent suitable candidates for sublobar resection. Researchers suggest including segmentectomy in the standard of care if an ongoing Japan Clinical Oncology Group trial confirms the noninferior survival of segmentectomy vs lobectomy.
