Long-term survival and prognostic factors for locally advanced renal cell carcinoma with renal vein tumor thrombus
BMC Cancer Feb 20, 2019
Cao C, et al. - Researchers sought the independent prognostic factors for 128 consecutive patients (103 men & 25 women) with locally advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) with renal vein tumor thrombus (RVTT) in China. Radical nephrectomy was done on all these patients. Outcomes suggest a relatively fair prognosis after radical surgery among these patients. Independent prognostic factors comprised friable thrombus, paraneoplastic syndrome (PNS), modified Fuhrman grade 3/4 and perirenal fat invasion. The 5-year cancer-specific survival (CSS) of 100% was evident for the Low-risk group (no factors), of 68.6% for Middle-risk group (1–2 factors), and of 0% for the High-risk group (3–4 factors).
