Long-term survival after endovascular and open repair in patients with anatomy outside instructions for use criteria for endovascular aneurysm repair
Journal of Vascular Surgery May 26, 2019
Charbonneau P, et al. - Researchers examined patients with anatomy outside instructions for use (IFU) criteria for endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) undergoing elective EVAR or elective open surgical repair (OSR) regarding the long-term survival. In this multicenter retrospective cohort study, they identified 202 EVAR patients and 224 OSR patients with at least one anatomic IFU violation for EVAR. Findings revealed higher overall long-term survival of patients with IFU violations with open surgery vs EVAR. They recommend practicing caution while considering standard EVAR for patients with anatomy outside of IFU.
