Long term survival after admission for COPD exacerbation: A comparison with the general population

van Hirtum PV, et al. - Researchers sought to determine 15-year survival following hospitalization for an exacerbation of chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD), compared with the general population. They noted that for hospitalized COPD patients vs the general population, the 15-year survival was reduced by 82%. Keeping this in mind, it was recommended that every possible effort should be taken to reduce exacerbations in a personalized way.
