Long-term risk of colorectal cancer and related deaths after a colonoscopy with normal findings
JAMA Feb 10, 2019
Lee JK, et al. - In comparison with individuals not screened, researchers examined the long-term risks of colorectal cancer and colorectal cancer deaths after negative colonoscopy results in a large community setting. In this community-based study of 1,251,318 people, a negative colonoscopy result in average-risk patients was related to a lower risk of colorectal cancer and related deaths for more than 12 years after examination vs patients without screening. The study findings can inform the screening guidelines after a negative colonoscopy result and future studies in order to assess the costs and benefits of earlier vs later screening intervals.
