Long-term results of fertility-sparing treatment for early-stage cervical cancer
Gynecologic Oncology Apr 19, 2019
Bogani G, et al. - Researchers examined long-term outcomes of 32 eligible young (aged <40 years) patients with stage IA2, IB1 and IB2 cervical cancer wishing to preserve their childbearing potential. They prospectively gathered data for these patients who had cervical conization and pelvic node dissection performed via minimally invasive surgery. The participants were followed up for a median duration of 75 months. Five-year disease free survival was 94% and five-year overall survival was 97%. Pregnancy happened in 11 (69%) out of 16 patients who attempted to conceive, taking into account reproductive outcomes. For this patient population, cervical conization and pelvic nodes assessment could be considered a valid treatment strategy.
