Long-term results of balloon angioplasty for native coarctation of the aorta in childhood in comparison with surgery
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Sep 13, 2017
Dijkema EJ, et al. - In this retrospective cohort study, the researchers intended to compare long-term outcomes of balloon angioplasty (BA) and surgery for treatment of native coarctation of the aorta (CoA) in childhood. Most patients performed well in daily life after CoA repair in childhood. However, on the long term, more than half of the patients develop hypertension and many develop re-CoA, particularly in those who underwent BA. Therefore, BA for the treatment of native CoA in children was not recommended.
