Long-term results after triple arthrodesis: Influence of alignment on ankle osteoarthritis and clinical outcome
Foot and Ankle Surgery Dec 04, 2017
Klerken T, et al. - Researchers, in this study, investigated if long long-term follow-up after triple arthrodesis would suggest a higher grade of osteoarthritis (OA) in cases where malalignment is evident after triple arthrodesis. In patients with a painful and deformed hindfoot, triple arthrodesis was considered as a salvage procedure and afforded a clinically beneficial outcome, even 15 years after surgery. Notably, malalignment after triple arthrodesis did not lead to a higher grade of OA of the ankle joint in the long-term, as demonstrated in this study. Further investigations are required to fully understand the cause of the aggravation of OA. Nevertheless, 15 years postoperative clinical outcomes were satisfactory.
