Long-term respiratory outcomes of post-op congenital lung malformations
Pediatrics International Jun 01, 2021
Dincel A, Yegit CY, Ergenekon AP, et al. - Researchers conducted this cross-sectional study to assess the long-term lung function of patients with congenital lung malformations (CLM) after surgery compared with healthy children. Participants in the study were 16 children with CLM (M/F: 9/7) and 30 age-matched, healthy controls (M/F: 13/17). Demographic information was collected, and spirometry and the nitrogen-based Lung Clearance Index (LCI) were used to compare the two groups. This study found that, after a long period of follow-up, patients who had surgery for CLM had impaired pulmonary function compared with healthy children, and that LCI may be more accurate than spirometry in detecting airway diseases early.
