Long term renal recovery in survivors after OHCA
Resuscitation Jul 05, 2019
Jamme M, et al. - Via a prospectively collected data from 246 consecutive out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) patients admitted between 2007 and 2012 in a tertiary medical ICU, the researchers intended to assess the long-term renal outcome of OHCA survivors according to the occurrence of acute kidney injury (AKI, frequently associated with various factors of definitive renal injury) in ICU. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) occurrence was observed 17 patients and 24 patients died of it, during a median follow-up time of 1.8 years. Independent associations of arterial hypertension, AKI while ICU stays and age greater than with CKD occurrence 55 was noticed. No correlation between AKI with long-term mortality could be ascertained. Hence, CKD was noted as a common long-term complication in OHCA survivors. Moreover, AKI through ICU stay was a powerful determinant of long-term CKD occurrence.
