Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Nov 07, 2018
Li P, et al. - Given that chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) that often requires long-term medical care, researchers conducted a retrospective cohort study with the aim of developing a long-term quality-of-care (QoL) score for predicting the occurrence of CKD in patients with type 2 DM (T2DM). They identified incident patients with T2DM from Taiwan’s Longitudinal Cohort of Diabetes Patients Database and the medical records in a medical center; patients were follow-up until 2011. They found that the capability of good QoL in attenuating the risk of CKD in patients with T2DM. Also, the score developed in this study can be applied to guide the care for CKD patients given its significant association with the CKD risk.
