Long-term prognosis of patients with J-wave syndrome
Heart Aug 10, 2019
Kamakura T, Shinohara T, Yodogawa K, et al. - In this multicenter (seven Japanese hospitals) retrospective study, researchers examined 134 patients with J-wave syndrome (JWS), including 85 with Brugada syndrome (BrS) and 49 with early repolarisation syndrome (ERS), who were treated with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator to determine the long-term prognosis of these patients as well as to recognize predictors of the recurrence of ventricular fibrillation (VF). Participants were observed for a duration of 91 ± 66 months. During this period, recurrence of VF was reported in 52 (39%) patients (BrS: 37; ERS: 15). A higher incidence of VF recurrence was reported in relation to the presence of global J waves in patients with JWS in this multicenter long-term investigation. VF recurrence in patients with JWS was also predicted by presence of global J waves.
