Long‐term predialysis blood pressure variability and outcomes in hemodialysis patients
The Journal of Clinical Hypertension Feb 03, 2022
In hemodialysis patients, greater predialysis blood pressure variability (BPV) was found to be linked with all-cause mortality and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). These patients might benefit from strategies to decrease blood pressure variability.
A total of 1,727 patients (mean age 59 years, 57% were males) receiving maintenance hemodialysis were enrolled to examine the link of long-term predialysis BPV with all-cause mortality and MACE.
An elevated risk of all-cause mortality (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.101) and MACE (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.091) was observed in relation to greater predialysis systolic BPV.
On stratifying systolic BPV by baseline systolic blood pressure, similar results were obtained.
