Long-term outcomes of tonsillectomy for IgA nephropathy patients: A retrospective cohort study, two-center analysis with the inverse probability therapy weighting method
Nephrology Jul 01, 2018
Matsumoto K, et al. - Researchers determined the impact of tonsillectomy on IgA nephropathy by comparing the outcome, end stage kidney disease (ESKD) and all-cause death in IgA nephropathy patients who did and did not undergo tonsillectomy. They retrospectively collected all basic data from patients who had undergone renal biopsies at two Japanese clinical centers. They used the inverse probability therapy weighting (IPTW) method to perform a Cox proportional hazard regression analysis after adjusting for patient characteristics. Based on the findings, they concluded that a predisponency of less poor prognosis may be yielded by performing tonsillectomy in an early and timely manner.
