Long-term outcomes of surgery for colorectal cancer: A 20-year study
Journal of Surgical Research Jan 31, 2019
Walker PA, et al. - In this cohort study, researchers investigated factors prompting long-term survival in patients undergoing colorectal resections for colorectal cancer. They analyzed data of 657 patients from a prospectively collected database, identifying the age at diagnosis, American Society of Anesthesiology score, and stage of disease as the principal predictors of long-term survival. Improved survival was observed in correlation with getting adjuvant chemotherapy. A minority of patients experienced an occurrence of metachronous cancers.
