Long-term outcomes of single-ventricle palliation for pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum: Fontan survivors remain at risk of late myocardial ischaemia and death
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Feb 18, 2018
Elias P, et al. - Researchers designed this study to assess if the potential for coronary ischaemia affects the long-term outcomes of patients with smaller right ventricles and myocardial sinusoids after Fontan palliation. Findings suggested excellent long-term survival of patients with pulmonary atresia with intact ventricular septum after the Fontan procedure. However, patients with right ventricle-dependent coronary circulation remained susceptible to coronary ischaemia and sudden death. Observations also suggested the necessity for closer surveillance and investigation for exercise-induced ischaemia.
