Long-term outcomes of patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute on chronic liver failure: An observational cohort study
Liver International Mar 14, 2019
Lin S, et al. - A sum of 814 candidates were analyzed to estimate the 5-year survival rate and incidence rate of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in subjects with hepatitis B virus-related acute on chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) vs cases with HBV-cirrhosis. Authors recorded 55.28% of cases with compensated cirrhosis and 29.73% of subjects with decompensated cirrhosis. They noted a higher 5-year survival rate of patients with ACLF (97.2%) as compared to subjects with decompensated cirrhosis (86.0%) but lesser than cases with compensated cirrhosis (99.1%). They concluded a better long-term prognosis among subjects with ACLF who survived the first 3 months as compared to decompensated cirrhosis whereas a similarity was noted between the HCC risk and the compensated cirrhosis.
