Long-term outcomes following surgery for infantile nystagmus syndrome with abnormal head positioning
American Journal of Ophthalmology Nov 22, 2019
Zheng Y, et al. - In this retrospective observational case series involving 150 individuals, researchers characterized long-term outcomes from surgical treatment of abnormal head positioning (AHP) correlated with infantile nystagmus syndrome (INS). The sample consisted of patients who had surgery for AHP related to nystagmus. Data reported that 31 individuals had surgery for AHP in the pitch (chin up/down) position, on the other hand, 119 had surgery for a horizontal AHP. Over the course of 10 years postoperatively, surgery for head positioning related to INS achieves excellent results. Overcorrection occurs early and can be resolved over time or through additional surgery. Later, under-correction occurs, and despite reoperation will continue.
