Long-term outcomes associated with implantable cardioverter defibrillator in adults with chronic kidney disease
JAMA Internal Medicine Feb 09, 2018
Bansal N, et al. - This study was performed to investigate the association of primary prevention implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) with the risk of death and hospitalization in a community-based population of potentially ICD-eligible patients who had heart failure with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). ICD placement was not significantly correlated with improved survival. Nevertheless, it was associated with increased risk for subsequent hospitalization due to heart failure and all-cause hospitalization. In patients with heart failure and CKD, the potential risks and benefits of ICDs ought to be carefully considered.
