Long-term outcomes and prognostic factors with non-curative endoscopic submucosal dissection for gastric cancer in elderly patients aged ≥ 75 years
Gastric Cancer Dec 20, 2018
Toya Y, et al. - Authors evaluated 87 patients with early gastric cancer aged ≥ 75 years (treated with non-curative endoscopic submucosal dissection [ESD]) to study the long-term consequences and prognostic determinants with non-curative ESD for gastric cancer in elders. A total of 27 patients died due to any cause; only 1 died of gastric cancer. They observed overall survival possibilities of 89.7% and 79.3% after 3 and 5 years, respectively, with Cox multivariate analysis exhibiting high Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) ≥ 3. They found CCI helpful in decision-making with respect to additional surgery for elderly individuals with gastric cancer treated by non-curative ESD.
