Long-term outcomes and periprocedural safety and efficacy of percutaneous left atrial appendage closure in a UK tertiary centre: 11-year experience
Heart Rhythm Jun 16, 2021
Briosa e Gala A, Pope MTB, Monteiro C, et al. - Among patients undergoing left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) implant in a UK tertiary centre, this inquiry was conducted to determine longer term “real-world” safety as well as efficacy results of LAAO given varied practice in antithrombotic regimes and adoption of same-day-discharge. A total of 229 patients underwent device implantation, and the acute procedural success rate was 98.2% and the rate of major procedural complications was low (2.6%) at 30-days, including a 1.3% procedure related mortality. A follow up of 889 patient-years revealed a low rate of thromboembolic and of significant bleeding events. Overall, a reduction in the risk of stroke and major bleeding over a mean follow-up span approaching 4 years was seemed to be safely as well as effectively conferred by LAAO with a same day discharge strategy and early cessation of antiplatelet therapy.
