Long-term outcomes after stenting as a bridge to surgery in patients with obstructing left-sided colorectal cancer
International Journal of Colorectal Disease Mar 25, 2018
Park J, et al. - This study incorporated a comparative evaluation of the long-term oncological outcomes of self-expandable metallic stents (SEMS) compared with surgery in the case of acute, obstructing, left-sided colorectal cancer (CRC). Findings revealed that the oncological outcomes including 5-year disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and cancer-specific survival (CSS) did not vary between the SEMS group and the emergent-surgery group in the long-term follow-up period. Hence, it was deduced that preoperative SEMS insertion did not adversely impact the long-term oncological outcomes or patient survival.
