Long-term outcomes after flap reconstruction in pediatric pressure ulcers
Annals of Plastic Surgery Jan 20, 2018
Firriolo JM, et al. - The long-term outcomes and recurrence rates of flap reconstruction for pediatric pressure ulcers were investigated. As per observations, the management of pediatric pressure ulcers with flap reconstruction could be valuable. Children demonstrated high rates of long-term success, however, their rates of ulcer recurrence were similar to that seen in adults. Postoperative recurrence could be due to poor compliance with nonoperative care and failure to modify the biopsychosocial perpetuators of pressure ulcers. The patient sample had many comorbidities, however, compliance was found to be the best indicator of long-term skin integrity and flap success.
