Long-term outcomes after elective sterilization procedures-A comparative retrospective cohort study of Medicaid patients
Contraception Jan 05, 2018
Steward R, et al. - In this study, women post-hysteroscopic sterilization (HS) and laparoscopic tubal ligation (TL) in the Medicaid population were compared in terms of long-term outcomes, including hysterectomy, chronic pelvic pain (CPP), and abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). Findings revealed the common occurrence of pelvic pain and AUB in women before and after sterilization, regardless of whether the procedure is performed hysteroscopically or laparoscopically. Furthermore, when compared to TL, HS was associated with a markedly reduced risk of hysterectomy or a CPP diagnosis in the 24 months post-sterilization.
