Long term outcome on the mal-seating of ceramic-on-ceramic articulation in total hip arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Jan 21, 2021
Chung KY, Cheung KW, Fan CH, et al. - The present study was performed to assess the long-term performance of the mal-seated ceramic liner. Researchers conducted 35 ceramic-on-ceramic total hip arthroplasties with the Trident acetabular system between July 2003 and March 2007. They conducted clinical assessment, radiological analysis and outcome assessment. They further evaluated the prevalence of liner mal-seating and its long-term outcomes. The study found favourable long-term outcomes of the mal-seated liner. Nevertheless, the data considered that surgeons should exercise meticulous surgical technique to achieve a properly aligned liner within the acetabular shell to minimize this potentially correctable error.
