Long-term outcome of postmenopausal women with proliferative endometrium on endometrial sampling
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Aug 22, 2020
Rotenberg O, Doulaveris G, Fridman D, et al. - Researchers sought to report on the long-term outcome of postmenopausal women who were diagnosed with proliferative endometrium. Among 1,808 assessed women (aged 55 years and older) who underwent endometrial sampling, 297 women (16.4%) received a diagnosis of proliferative endometrium. This suggests that proliferative endometrium is present in one of the 6 postmenopausal women who underwent endometrial sampling. In addition, among women with a proliferative endometrium, endometrial hyperplasia or cancer developed in 11.9%, a 4-fold greater incidence than women with an atrophic endometrium. Based on the findings, they emphasize undertaking long-term monitoring for women with postmenopausal bleeding and a proliferative endometrium histology.
