Long-term outcome in patients treated with first- vs second-generation drug-eluting stents for the treatment of unprotected left main coronary artery stenosis
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Jul 19, 2019
van Zandvoort LJC, et al. - Researchers studied consecutive 656 all-comer patients who underwent a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for unprotected left main coronary arteries (ULMCA) stenosis at the Erasmus Medical Center, to compare long-term clinical outcome between PCI with the first-generation (1st-gen) drug-eluting stents (DES) vs PCI with 2nd-gen DES. Using 1st-gen DES and 2nd-gen DES, 235 and 421 patients were treated, respectively. Findings revealed no significant differences between 1st vs 2nd-gen DES with regard to safety and efficacy at 5 years follow-up in this extensive cohort of consecutive patients treated for ULMCA stenosis.
