Long-term outcome and recurrence of hepatitis B virus following liver transplantation from hepatitis B surface antigen-positive donors in a Chinese population
Journal of Viral Hepatitis Jul 25, 2018
Wei L, et al. - Researchers evaluated the long-term safety of using of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg)-positive donor for liver transplantation in a Chinese population via performing a multicentric retrospective study from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2012. They identified 8632 patients who underwent liver transplantation during the period, 282 (2.97%) were identified receiving a liver from a HBsAg-positive donor. Via matching 259 cases in both the case and control groups, it was noted that the groups were not significantly different regarding the incidence of postoperative liver dysfunction, early stage and long term complications and the 1-, 3- and 5-year patient survival. Hence they suggest the feasibility of the use of HBsAg-positive donors and recommend managing postoperative antiviral therapy.
