Long-term outcome and pattern of failure for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy
Head & Neck Jan 04, 2019
Tian YM, et al. - Authors analyzed 867 subjects with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) to investigate the long-term consequence and pattern of failure in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cases after intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). They observed 92.0% of 10-year local recurrence-free survival, 83.4% of distant metastasis-free survival and 78.6% of disease-specific survival (DSS) with the death of 209 individuals. They noted no improvement in survival of subjects with stage II and low-risk stage III disease even after supplementing chemotherapy. Distant metastasis was observed the most common reason for failure.
