Long-term outcome after resection for recurrent oesophageal cancer
Journal of Thoracic Disease Jun 07, 2018
Kato F, et al. - Researchers investigated the long-term outcomes of patients who underwent resection (not including salvage esophagectomy) for recurrent or residual esophageal squamous cell carcinoma after surgery or definitive chemoradiotherapy (dCRT). The goal was to reveal appropriate indications for a surgical approach. They found that in patients with abdominal lymph node (LN) recurrence, LN recurrence outside the radiation field, or a solitary lung recurrence of esophageal cancer, an improved prognosis might be achieved by using the appropriate surgical approach. More than 3 years of survival was reported for 9 of 42 patients: 4 after salvage abdominal lymphadenectomy, 3 after resection for solitary lung recurrence, and 2 others.
