Long-term lung function in children following lobectomy for congenital lung malformation
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Sep 28, 2017
Tocchioni F, et al. - Authors here evaluated pulmonary function (PF) in children who underwent lobectomy for congenital lung malformation (CLM) in infancy, hypothesizing that patients operated during the first year of life retain a normal lung function. In this work, the long-term outcome after lobectomy was excellent for most patients, as they retained a normal long-term PF. Findings thus suggested the beneficial effects of a surgical approach before one year of age for asymptomatic patients to avoid complications such as malignancy and to ensure an optimal PF catch-up.
