Long-term health-related quality of life in children with lymphatic malformations treated with sclerotherapy generally matched age-appropriate standardised population norms
Acta Pediatrica Mar 28, 2019
Ghaffarpour N, et al. - In this cross-sectional study, researchers evaluated the long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of children receiving sclerotherapy for lymphatic malformations. This therapy involved injecting drugs into the blood vessels to shrink them. From 1998 to 2013, patients receiving OK-432 sclerotherapy injections were retrospectively reviewed at Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. For this investigation, they examined 49 patients (63% female) aged 8–18 at least 5 years after their first injection. In the general population, overall HRQoL had paralleled age-appropriate norms, but some subgroups had lower levels. Despite generally positive results, the impaired HRQoL has been related to multiple injections and malformations in the head and neck.
