Long-term health and socioeconomic consequences of childhood and adolescent onset of meningococcal meningitis
European Journal of Pediatrics Jun 23, 2018
Pickering L, et al. - In this prospective cohort study, the researchers evaluated the long-term socioeconomic consequences and health care costs of Neisseria meningitidis meningitis (NM). This investigation involved Danish people with onset of NM in childhood and adolescence, diagnosed between 1980 and 2009. The obtained results demonstrate that NM had a significant influence on mortality, morbidity, education, and income. The findings from the present study suggested that the management of subjects with previous meningococcal meningitis should focus on early educational and social interventions to improve social and health outcomes.
