Long-term functional outcomes and quality of life in patients with Hirschsprung's disease
British Journal of Surgery Feb 22, 2019
Meinds RJ, et al. - Via this cross-sectional study, researchers sought to assess the long-term functional outcomes and quality of life (QoL) in patients with Hirschsprung's disease. They invited 619 patients with pathologically proven Hirschsprung's disease older than 7 years; of these, 346 (55·9%) responded, with a median age of 18 (range 8–45) years. Adults reported better functional outcomes than children. However, there was a substantial group of adults with Hirschsprung's disease who experienced the persistence of symptoms of constipation and soiling. They recommend continuous care in correlation with the persistence of defaecation problems in this specific group of patients.
