Long-term follow-up of covered stent implantation for various coronary artery diseases
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Feb 22, 2019
Hachinohe D, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers assessed long-term clinical outcomes post-coronary covered stent (CS) implantation. They also compared outcomes based on the indications. Study participants included 190 consecutive patients (212 lesions) implanted with CS and discharged between May 1997 and February 2017. The investigators used the Gehan–Breslow–Wilcoxon test for assessing and comparing the clinical outcomes. The use of CS was primarily reported for patients who were treated for a saphenous vein graft (SVG; 51.4%), followed by coronary artery perforation (CAP; 25.0%), and coronary artery aneurysm (CAA; 11.8%). With respect to post-CS implantation, they noted a frequent occurrence of clinical events in the early period. A steady increase in the occurrence of events was reported in the long-term period. Overall, fewer adverse cardiac events were reported in relation to CS implantation in CAA, which suggest that it may lead to safe and acceptable outcomes. However, a high risk of long-term cardiac events was observed in relation to CS implanted in CAP and SVG.
