Long-term follow-up after ablation of intra-atrial re-entrant tachycardia in patients with congenital heart disease: Types and predictors of recurrence

JACC: Clinical Electrophysiology Jun 22, 2018

Roca-Luque I, et al. - Given that intra-atrial re-entrant tachycardia (IART) increases morbidity and mortality in congenital heart disease (CHD) patients, researchers assessed the long-term outcomes in all consecutive CHD patients who underwent first ablation for IART from January 2009 to December 2015. During this prospective, single-center study period, 130 procedures were performed and 114 IART were ablated (short-term success 74.66%) in the first procedure. Despite being a challenging procedure, IART enabled the attainment of maintained sinus rhythm (SR) in 78.3% cases of CHD, when performed in experienced centers. Non-cavotricuspid isthmus-related IART, long PR interval, and previous or induced atrial fibrillation predicted recurrence. A risk score based on these factors can be useful to predict recurrence.
