Long-term evaluation of the effect of middle ear effusion on the vestibular system in children
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Mar 24, 2018
Pazdro-Zastawny K, et al. - In this cohort study, authors investigated if the past history of middle ear effusion has a long-term negative effect on the vestibular system in children. A negative impact of the presence of effusion in the middle ear in the past on the vestibular part of the inner ear was noted. In children with a history of otitis media with effusion, clinicians ought to be aware of the possible negative effect of middle ear effusion on the vestibular function. Findings suggested an inquiry of the parents of seemingly asymptomatic children about symptoms of dysequilibrium and imbalance.
