Long-term effects of tacrolimus for maintenance therapy of lupus nephritis: A 5-year retrospective study at a single center
Rheumatology International Nov 12, 2018
Karasawa K, et al. - Researchers investigated long-term effects of tacrolimus initiated at a dose of 3 mg/day after induction therapy in 26 adult patients with lupus nephritis (LN) in this retrospective study. On account of related complications, including acute myeloblastic leukemia, tremor, or a general personal choice or a desire to become pregnant, 3 patients discontinued tacrolimus treatment. Information on renal response; modified lupus nephritis disease activity index, including hematuria, proteinuria, complement 3, anti-double-stranded DNA antibody, and estimated glomerular filtration rate; and prednisolone dose were obtained retrospectively. Findings showed potential efficacy of tacrolimus for treating LN. Generally good tolerability was seen with the current dosage for long-term maintenance treatment in patients with LN, as well as the potential for efficacy.
