Long-term clinical outcomes of percutaneous transluminal angioplasty with optional stenting in patients with superficial femoral artery disease: A retrospective, observational analysis
European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Aug 16, 2018
Vossen RJ, et al. - Considering the recent ESC guideline recommends placement of a primary stent in superficial femoral arterial disease (SFAD), researchers compared clinical outcomes of SFAD patients chosen for stent placement with plain percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). They performed a single center retrospective, observational analysis of 389 patients undergoing endovascular treatment for SFAD from 2004 to 2015. As per outcomes, selective stenting in patients with SFAD confers similar results in long-term clinical outcomes in patients who were treated with plain PTA as well as patients who are selected for stent placement. Findings thus support an approach of selective stenting.
