Long-term clinical outcomes after coronary artery bypass graft vs everolimus-eluting stent implantation in chronic hemodialysis patients
Coronary Artery Disease Aug 10, 2018
Kumada Y, et al. - In patients on chronic hemodialysis (HD), researchers compared coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) to percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with everolimus-eluting stent (EES) implantationin terms of long-term clinical outcomes, especially major adverse cardiac events (MACE). A total of 138 patients had CABG and 187 patients had EES implantation. Both patient groups were comparable in terms of freedom from MACE and mortality at 5 years. However, a higher freedom rate from revascularization at 5 years was reported in the CABG group vs the EES group; this was confirmed in propensity score-matched patients. Overall, they concluded that CABG represents a superior option to prevent revascularization in patients on chronic HD.
