Long-term clinical effect of group cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia: A case series study
Sleep Medicine Apr 17, 2018
Castronovo V, et al. - For this study, authors evaluated the long-term effects of group cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) after a mean 7.8 ± 1.6 years of follow-up (range 4–10 years). Insomnia disorder (ID) patients were consecutively enrolled at the Sleep Disorders Centre of San Raffaele Hospital, Milan. A significant improvement was achieved in the insomnia severity index (ISI) total score and all variables of the sleep diaries for those who completed treatment. The effect of CBT-I was maintained up to 10 years after the end of treatment. Subjects using only CBT-I techniques to deal with relapses exhibited better outcomes, especially compared to those who re-used medications. Thus CBT-I could be regarded as the treatment of choice for insomnia.
