Long-term changes in body composition and their relationships with cardiometabolic risk factors: A population-based cohort study

PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases May 19, 2021

Fan Z, Shi Y, Huang G, et al. - By using data from the China Health Nutrition Survey, researchers attempted to classify the latent body fat trajectories of Chinese adults as well as their links with cardiometabolic risk factors. They analyzed data for 3,013 participants, who had six follow-up visits between 1993 and 2009. To create fat mass to fat-free mass ratio (F2FFMR) trajectory groups, experts employed latent growth model. According to findings, three F2FFMR trajectory groups in females and four in males were discovered in this long-term study. The highest risk of developing diabetes, independent of age and body mass, was observed in relation to the highly stable F2FFMR, in men as well as in women. Additionally, in females, it was found to be related to the highest risk of hypertension, independent of age and body mass.
