Long-term cardiovascular outcomes among endometrial cancer survivors in a large, population-based cohort study
Journal of the National Cancer Institute Jul 13, 2018
Soisson S, et al. - In this study including cohorts of 2,648 endometrial cancer survivors diagnosed between 1997 and 2012 and 10,503 age-matched women from the general population, researchers assessed the long-term cardiovascular outcomes among endometrial cancer survivors, given that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death among endometrial cancer survivors. They used electronic medical records and statewide ambulatory surgery and statewide inpatient data to find cardiovascular diagnoses. They found that, relative to women from the general population, endometrial cancer survivors had a higher risk for various adverse long-term cardiovascular outcomes and therefore, these patients may necessarily be required to undergo increased monitoring for cardiovascular diseases for 10 years after cancer diagnosis. Phlebitis, thrombophlebitis, and thromboembolism, pulmonary heart disease, and atrial fibrillation were among the conditions for which increased risks were seen.
