Long-term body weight trajectories and metabolic control in type 1 diabetes patients on insulin pump or multiple daily injections: A 10-year retrospective controlled study
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jun 25, 2019
Alderisio A, et al. - In persons with diabetes, researchers compared the impact of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) vs multiple daily injections (MDI) on long-term body weight trajectories. For this retrospective analysis, a mean follow-up of 9.1±1.4 years was performed in adult type 1 diabetes (T1DM) patients on CSII (n=90) or MDI (n=90), strictly matched for sex, age, BMI, and diabetes duration to assess annual shifts in body weight, HbA1c, and daily insulin doses. Over a mean 10-year follow-up, similar body weight gain was observed in T1DM patients on CSII or MDI; CSII led to better glycemic control and lower insulin doses.
