Long-term benefits of sustained virologic response for patient-reported outcomes in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Jan 25, 2020
Younossi ZM, Stepanova M, Racila A, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to compare post-treatment patient-reported outcome (PRO) scores between individuals with chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection who did and did not achieve a sustained virologic response (SVR) to treatment. The sample consisted of 4,234 individuals with an SVR and 242 without an SVR from whom pretreatment PRO data were available. Upon registry enrollment, individuals with an SVR had significant increases in all PRO scores vs pretreatment baseline levels. Based on PRO scores, those with an SVR to treatment for HCV infection had significant increases in well-being in a follow-up analysis of candidates in clinical trials. Over the follow-up period, patients without an SVR had decreasing PRO scores.
