Long-term assessment of aspirin desensitization shows successful bridging with non-aspirin nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for procedures
Allergy and Asthma Proceedings Sep 24, 2019
Do T, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers compared the long-term influences of different maintenance doses of aspirin (ASA) and evaluated the success of bridging people with ASA-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD) for operation without losing desensitization. Participants were 36 individuals with AERD who successfully had ASA desensitization from 2011 to 2017. Findings revealed that the observed benefits did not differ between 325 mg once or twice a day vs 650 mg once or twice a day, but small participant numbers made this conclusion difficult to prove. Both subjective reporting on sleep quality and quality of life were improved as a result of desensitization. In this study, ibuprofen use for bridging the people with AERD who needed surgery appeared safe and effective in maintaining ASA desensitization.
