Long-term and temporal outcomes of transcatheter vs surgical aortic-valve replacement in severe aortic stenosis: a meta-analysis
Annals of Surgery Feb 12, 2021
Zhang XL, Zhang XW, Lan RF, et al. - Given the emergence of TAVR as a valuable treatment for severe aortic stenosis, researchers sought to report on the long-term safety and efficacy of TAVR vs SAVR. Searching databases until October 6, 2019, they identified 4 trials with 3,758 patients for inclusion. Findings revealed a significantly higher 5-year all-cause mortality in correlation with TAVR vs SAVR. Of note, a characteristic temporal pattern was observed in all-cause mortality indicating raised risk between 2 and 5 years but not within 2 years. Hence, warranting longer-term follow-up data.
