Long-term analysis of transorally resected p16 + oropharynx cancer: Outcomes and prognostic factors

The Laryngoscope Apr 25, 2019

Sinha P, et al. - In this prospectively assembled transoral laser microsurgery (TLM) cohort of 171 subjects, investigators estimated the long-term outcome of transorally resected p16 + oropharyngeal carcinoma (OPC). They reported the 5-year disease-free survival [DFS], disease-specific survival [DSS], overall survival [OS], 85%, 93%, and 90%, respectively with distant metastasis as the most common recurrence. They found age, smoking, American Joint Committee on Cancer 8th edition clinical tumor-category, pathologic tumor (pT)-category, pathologic tumor-node-metastasis (pTNM), and any adjuvant significantly correlated with DFS. They also recorded pT-category, pN-category, TNM grouping, and angioinvasion were linked with DSS. They suggested posttreatment oncologic surveillance for at least 48 months by the observed time to recurrence.
